Mortara wins Macau qualifying race, Di Grassi and Rosenqvist crash out

Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara won an interrupted qualifying race at the Macau Grand Prix FIA GT World Cup.

The race was red-flagged on the opening lap when 12 of the 20 competitors were caught up in the incident.

Mercedes driver Morata’s margin of victory was 1.5seconds ahead of Augusto Farfus (BMW) with Raffaele Marciello finishing third for Mercedes.

Former Andretti Autosport Formula E driver Robin Frijns finished in fourth for Audi despite starting 17th for the qualifying race.

Maro Engel, who also drives for Venturi in the all-electric championship, was last of the classified drivers and a lap down on his Formula E team-mate.

Fellow Formula E drivers Lucas di Grassi and Felix Rosenqvist were caught up in the lap one crash.

Di Grassi and Rosenqvist started the qualifying race in 10th and 11 respectively but were unable to complete the race due to the 12-car pile-up.

Tom Blomqvist, who was announced at Andretti Autosport by the FIA before the team announced Kamui Kobayashi for the Hong Kong ePrixs, was also caught up in the accident.
