Audi does not appeal against Hong Kong disqualification

After Daniel Abt’s disqualification from the win in the second race of the Hong Kong ePrix, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler had the possibility to appeal against said decision. However, the German team announced today it will not appeal against it.

Shortly after Daniel Abt’s first win in Formula E, came the news that the German driver had been disqualified from the race, and the win was inherited by Felix Rosenqvist. The stewards explained the reason behind the decision: “The FIA security stickers (barcodes) on the inverter and MGU units did not correspond with those declared on the Technical Passport provided by the competitor Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler for the event“.

Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler were given the possibility to appeal against the disqualification; but Team Principal Allan McNish announced the German squad would not take any action. “We took the time to carefully review all documents and processes. We gained no advantage as a result of the administrative error and all parts fully complied to homologation and the technical regulations at all times“, commented the Scot.

Still, we accept the decision of the FIA and fully back the technical passport regulations. Our team made a small mistake with big consequences that we own up to, unfortunately that deprived Daniel of his very deserved victory of which we can only apologize for“, McNish added.

This would have been Abt’s first victory in the series. The German already made it to the podium four times, and clinched pole position once. After being given the penalty, he sits eighth in the standings, having scored 11 points.
