No replacement for Montreal ePrix; New York to end season

The cancelled Montreal ePrix double-header will not be replaced by FIA Formula E, leaving season four with 12 races instead of the planned 14.

It means the New York City ePrix on July 14 and 15 will now be the season finale for the 2017-18 season instead of Montreal.

Montreal hosted a double-header to end season three in 2016-17 and was full of drama as Lucas di Grassi claimed his first Formula E title ahead of Sebastien Buemi.

The race was cancelled earlier in the year with the election of a new mayor, Valerie Plante, with the race causing political and financial difficulties for the city.

The all-electric series had considered some options to replace the Montreal weekend which included adding an event on to a confirmed race this season, or potentially adding an event at the Norisring.

Montreal is not the only race to be cancelled from this season’s calendar as the planned Sao Paulo ePrix was postponed until season five.

It was replaced with a round at Punta del Este, returning to the Formula E calendar after a one-year hiatus.
