Da Costa loses front row start after post-qualifying penalty

Antonio Felix da Costa has been stripped of his front row start at the Mexico City ePrix after his car was found to be underweight after the Super Pole Shootout.

Da Costa had originally qualified in second place, two tenths off pole-sitter Felix Rosenqvist.

However, after the car was weighed following the Super Pole Shootout, it was found to be under the 880kg minimum weight.

The Portuguese driver had his Super Pole time of 1m01.852seconds deleted.

His Andretti ATEC-03 was weighed after groups qualifying and met the required weight, and therefore da Costa only loses his Super Pole time.

The decision means da Costa will start in the last Super Pole position, which would normally be fifth.

But DS Virgin’s Alex Lynn, who also made the Super Pole Shootout, has a 10-place grid penalty for a change of gearbox meaning da Costa will start in fourth place.

Da Costa’s penalty promotes NIO’s Oliver Turvey and Season 2 champion Sebastien Buemi to second and third respectively.
