eTrophy organisers reveal race format

Organisers of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy have revealed the race format for the Formula E support series which launches next season.

The eTrophy, the first championship for production electric cars, will support FE for the 2018-19 season.

Races will be 25 minutes plus one lap, with qualifying taking place earlier in the day. Due to FE’s tight one-day schedule, free practice won’t be available on race day. Where track availability allows it, two free practice sessions will be scheduled on the day previously, alongside Formula E’s shakedown session.

“It’s so tight with whatever street circuit we go to,” championship manager Marion Barnaby told e-racing365.

“We’re working with Formula E closely to see where we can get our allocated time.

“We have specific timings we’ve set to, and that at the moment is 25 minutes plus one lap.”

The calendar for the eTrophy’s inaugural season is yet to be confirmed, though the support series could make an appearance as early as the FE season opener later this year.

World Rally Championship team M-Sport is set to provide engineering support to the eTrophy.

M-Sport hasn’t confirmed what role it will play in the new championship, but its believed engineers from the team will be present at the races and could be operating the I-Pace race cars.
