Sims and da Costa confirmed for BMW’s Season 5 entry

Today was the big day for BMW. The German car maker launched its Season 5 challenger, as well as announcing the driver lineup for their first campaign as a full-time manufacturer.

BMW has been tied to Formula E since the beginning of the fully-electric championship, providing the series with the Safety and Medical cars.

On the racing side of things, the Munich-based brand’s involvement started next to the Andretti team in Season 3, it continued in Season 4, and it was announced that BMW would take over the American squad for Formula E’s fifth season.

Antonio Felix da Costa, whose arrival to Andretti coincided with BMW’s and has been linked to the German manufacturer since his DTM days, was a clear candidate for one of the two seats available.

Alexander Sims, part of BMW’s Sportscar programme for a long time, had previously tested the car before Season 4. He lost the race for the other seat against BMW factory driver Tom Blomqvist, but his name rose again as a candidate for a drive during this off-season period.

In an event broadcasted in BMW Motorsports social media channels, the car was launched, as well as the lineup confirmed. Sims and da Costa will indeed be the two drivers this prestigious brand will have racing this season, where a new chapter in racing is opened in Formula E, with the introduction of the Gen 2 car.
