Maria Herrera joins MotoE Line-up

Maria Herrera is the latest rider added to the line-up for the inaugural FIM Enel MotoE World Cup in 2019.

The 22-year-old Spaniard scored 17 points across 54 Moto3 races between 2013 and 2017, and more recently finished 13th in this year’s World SuperSport 300 Championship, with a best finish of fourth at the season finale in Magny Cours.

Herrera will be racing for the Angel Nieto outfit – formerly known as Aspar – in next year’s five-round championship.

“I am really happy to have signed with the Angel Nieto Team for the FIM MotoE World Cup, I think we will make a good team,” Herrera told Motorsport.com

“I am already looking forward to getting to work in November at the first test, which will be my first time on the bike.”

Herrera added: “I am very happy because this season I have already ridden a 600 at a good level, even though I know the move to MotoE will be a challenge, and I will keep training for it in the same way.”

“I have been told a few things about the bike, which I think will be very different to anything I have ridden before, but it will be a case of adjusting.”

Maria Herrera will complete an all-Spanish line-up for the Angel Nieto Team, and will ride alongside 2011 125cc World Champion and 3-time Moto2 race winner, Nico Terol.

Team boss Jorge ‘Aspar’ Martinez spoke of Herrera’s importance to the team’s ambitions in the all-electric series:

“I am delighted to be able to welcome Maria Herrera to the team. She is a fast rider and we are happy to be able to bring her into this new structure.”

“We have the challenge ahead of us of winning another world title and with Maria and Nico Terol we can put together a winning project in this new series.”

Current MotoGP racer Xavier Simeon is the other big name to have confirmed their place on the first ever MotoE grid, with the Belgian set to race for Avintia Racing alongside Moto2’s Eric Granado.

Former MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet and KTM’s Bradley Smith are also expected to take part, whilst Dynavolt Intact GP have signed former Moto2 rider Jesko Raffin.
