Hartley announces Porsche development role

Brendon Hartley has recently announced he will take part in a development role for Porsche, as the German marque prepares to enter Formula E in Season 6.

The legendary German car brand had previously announced their works driver and Le Mans winner Neel Jani as one of their drivers for their initial season in the fully-electric championship.

Questions were raised on whether New Zealander Hartley would take part in Porsche’s Formula E effort.

The Kiwi, who raced for Toro Rosso in Formula 1, was part of Porsche’s LMP1 programme from 2014 until the Germans stepped away from that WEC class to focus on their Formula E programme in 2017. He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2017.

On a tweet announcing his plans for 2019, Hartley confirmed he is still tied with Porsche, and will participate in their Formula E program development, as they prepare to make their debut in Season 6.

He will also participate in the two upcoming races of the World Endurance Championship Superseason with SMP Racing, as well as working as a sim driver for Ferrari.

Porsche are yet to announce who will complete their lineup for their 2019-20 Season campaign.
