da Costa joins DS Techeetah for Season 6

Antonio Felix da Costa has been confirmed as Andre Lotterer’s replacement at teams’ champions DS Techeetah for the upcoming Formula E season.

The Portuguese driver will be moving over from BMW i Andretti Motorsport, for whom he has driven for the past three seasons.

Prior to BMW stepping up their involvement this season, his best result with Andretti had been a fifth place finish at Hong Kong in Season 3.

However, the Portuguese driver won the opening round in Ad Diriyah before adding further podiums in Mexico City, Sanya and the first race in New York en route to sixth in the drivers’ championship.

Da Costa was looking forward to the opportunity saying: “Getting the opportunity to join a double championship winning team in such a highly competitive motorsport category like Formula E is very rare.

“It was a very hard decision to leave my current position but it’s an opportunity I just couldn’t say no to and I’m very excited to join Jean-Éric and everyone at DS Techeetah.”

He also scored over three times as many points last season than he had in the previous two seasons at the team put together.

He will be racing alongside the two-time series champion Jean-Eric Vergne.

DS Techeetah team principal Mark Preston said: “It’s fantastic to have Antonio with the team. He’s a good friend to all of us and we’re all looking forward to welcoming him and to see him in the gold and black DS Techeetah colours.

“He will be a great, and fast, addition to the team and we’re all very excited to see what Jean-Eric and Antonio will deliver on track this coming year.”
