Panis converts pole to victory in Andorra

Aurelien Panis extended his Andros e-Trophy championship lead with victory in the lone Andorra round.

Day one in Andorra was cancelled due to treacherous weather conditions, and Saturday’s action was pushed forward to avoid the worst of the weather this evening. Even so, visibility was low by the time the Elite-Pro finals began.

Panis led from start to finish, quickly pulling away from father Olivier, who also started from the front row of the grid.

As Olivier Panis battled to keep Jean-Baptiste Dubourg behind him, Aurelien Panis extended the gap to the rest of the field and finished 1.171s ahead.

Olivier Panis managed to keep Dubourg behind him to take second, but the Renault driver held on to the final spot on the podium. Third place was enough for reigning champion Dubourg to pass Yann Ehrlacher in the championship standings, moving up to second and 14 points behind Panis.

Nico Prost and Olivier Pernaut both made up positions when Franck Lagorce came to a stop mid-way through the race. Neither were close enough to challenge for the podium, though, and finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Quentin Giordano took a comfortable victory in the second final, leading from lights to flag as Ehrlacher and Andreas Bakkerud battled for position off the line.

Despite Bakkerud managing to pull alongside Ehrlacher, the Yvan Muller Racing driver held his position. Bakkerud later fell back when he hit the snow bank at the side of the track and Ehrlacher pulled away to finish second, enough to keep him a point ahead of Olivier Panis in the championship standings.

Bakkerud took third, while Christophe Ferrier completed the order.
