Venturi test driver Arthur Leclerc joins Ferrari junior squad

Venturi test driver Arthur Leclerc has joined the Ferrari Driver Academy as he makes the move to the Formula Regional European Championship with Prema Powerteam.

Leclerc, whose older brother Charles has signed a five year contract with the Ferrari F1 team, has been part of the Venturi squad since 2018. He ran in the 2019 Marrakesh rookie test, alongside Venturi reserve driver, Norman Nato, and finished ninth quickest overall.

The 19-year-old will be one of nine FDA members in 2020, which includes drivers such as Mick Schumacher and Gianluca Petecof, who will also be racing with Prema in the FREC.

“I am really happy to announce that I will drive in Formula Regional with one of the best teams in junior series,” he said. “I did my very first test in single seaters with Prema two years ago, and I have always dreamed to race with them.

“This great opportunity comes with another big chance for me, as I am proud to announce that I am joining the Ferrari Driver Academy. I am very grateful for the support and the trust given to me. I cannot wait to be back in the racing seat!”

Leclerc made his car racing debut in 2018, joining the French Formula 4 championship after a truncated karting career. He finished fifth in the championship standings and claimed two overall victories.

Last year, as well as taking on an expanded role at Venturi, Leclerc moved to the German F4 championship where he finished third overall.
