Rowland tops a cut-short FP2 session

Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland finished on top of the standings in the Santiago E-Prix’s second free practice, which was cut-short due to a red flag towards the end of the session.

The first ten minutes of the session, were led by Porsche’s Andre Lotterer, with Mercedes’ Nyck de Vries closely behind in the standings for most of the former’s dominance.

Mitch Evans was able to overtake Lotterer to go on top of the timings just before the session was red flagged as cooling fans left on Brendon Hartley’s Dragon Racing car fell off as he joined the track from the pitlane.

As the session was restarted, Brazilian driver Felipe Massa took over the lead of the standings. The Brazilian remained on top, until Britain’s Oliver Rowland showcased his potential once again, and overtook him for the first spot.

But Rowland’s dominance could not continue at full potential immediately as he led the session, because NIO 333’s Ma Qing Hua hit the wall, causing his car to stop and the second deployment of red flags of the session.

As the session’s time came to an end, the second free practice finished with the red flags still on after the Chinese driver’s crash. This meant Nissan’s Oliver Rowland ended up topping the standings, followed by Venturi’s Felipe Massa, and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans completing the Top 3. Previous race winners Alexander Sims and Sam Bird finished in P17 and P22, respectively.
