Jakarta E-Prix to be postponed over COVID-19

As the COVID-19 threat expands worldwide with an escalating number of cases, Formula E is once again a victim of the effects of the virus, as the Jakarta E-Prix is the latest race to be postponed.

The race, which was supposed to be relocated, has now been put off Formula E has informed in an official statement.

This comes after the number of coronavirus cases is increasing in Indonesia. Both the fully-electric championship organisation and local authorities have decided that for race staff and public’s health, postponing the event was the safest option.

“We are evaluating contingency plans to lessen the potential impact of coronavirus and maintain the highest possible number of races on the calendar for season six”, commented the series’ co-founder Alberto Longo.

“It is a fluid situation, developing on a daily basis and we remain realistic and flexible in our approach to alternative options, which will be communicated in due course. These include adding double-headers to existing events, using permanent facilities and racing behind closed doors if necessary and advised to do so by local authorities in any given location”, he added.

The statement also informs that Formula E and Jakarta organisers are working together on looking for a potential replacement date.
