Jaguar announces cancellation of its I-PACE eTrophy

The series, which ran along some Formula E races in a variety of venues across the calendar, has been called off after one season and with the ongoing one stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy was launched in late 2018, having its first races in Riyadh, along with the Formula E season opener. With an average number of 12 cars per race, this championship lined up drivers from different origins and racing backgrounds.

Brazil’s Sergio Jimenez clinched the first title, and had already took victory in two races this season before all motorsports activity was put off due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Jaguar has now cancelled the series for the upcoming seasons. Although the brand intends to finish this year’s edition, the global situation raises questions marks on when the racing activity will be resumed.

In an official statement, the brand acknowledges that data was collected to implement on their I-PACE road car through the racing car’s performance.

James Barclay, Jaguar Racing’s Team Boss expressed that “The success of the eTROPHY in taking the pioneering technology Jaguar developed through Formula E and applying it to high performance production cars is a testament to their branding and engineering capabilities”.
