Wehrlein leaves Mahindra with immediate effect

Mahindra’s Pascal Wehrlein has left the team with immediete effect, he has confirmed.

The 25-year-old joined the Formula E grid at the start of the 2018-19 season, partnering Jerome d’Ambrosio at Mahindra.

He was forced to miss the opening round of the 2018-19 season due to Formula 1 commitments, and retired from his debut race in Marrakesh, but picked up his first FE podium in Santiago last year.

Wehrlein continued with Mahindra for his second season in the championship. The 2019-20 season has been mixed for Mahindra so far, and Wehlrein has picked up only two points finishes.

In a statement on social media, he confirmed he will not continue with Mahindra when the championship resumes.

“From today onwards I will no longer be part of Mahindra Racing,” he said.

“My interest was to finish the season but the current situation didn’t allow so.

“I can’t say much about my future but will keep you informed. Thank you all for your support and see you soon on track again.”

Wehrlein’s exit from Mahindra is the second driver line-up change since the season was suspended.

The Audi line-up is set to change for the first time in Formula E history after Daniel Abt was suspended from the team.
