Aegerter wins as Granado’s title challenge falters

Dominique Aegerter won the second round of the FIM MotoE World Cup at Jerez in convincing style.

The Swiss rider, for Dynavolt Intact GP, started from pole and led every lap to win the race from Jordi Torres and Mattia Casadei.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for him, however, as he briefly lost the lead on the opening lap, firstly to Matteo Ferrari and then to Alejandro Medina.

Medina fell at Turn 1 on the fourth lap after he lost the front end whilst championship leader Eric Granado was taken out at the Curva Dry Sack by Ferrari.

The Italian rider attempted to pass both Granado and Torres but left his braking too late and hit Granado although both riders were ok.

Granado would recover to finish 13th and score three points.

Alex de Angelis passed Niccolo Canepa for fourth at Turn 13 on the final lap as they rounded out the top five.

The top ten was rounded out by Lukas Tulovic, Mike Di Meglio, Josh Hook, Xavier Simeon and Xavier Cardelus.

The other retirements from the race were Tommaso Marcon and Alessandro Zaccone, who collided at Curva Dry Sack on the opening lap although both riders were ok.

The result sees Aegerter move into the lead of the championship ahead of Torres with Granado dropping down to third.
