Rowland fastest in truncated FP1

Oliver Rowland topped the order in the first free practice session of the Berlin sextuple.

The 45 minute session was cut short by eight minuets after Jaguar Racing’s James Calado came to a stop on track on his out lap.

Calado spent the first 35 minutes of the session in the pits as the team performed a precautionary power train change. When he finally managed to get on track, the car ground to a halt on track, and was unsafe for track marshals to approach.

Rowland jumped to the top of the times late in the session, setting a 1m07.832s lap around the reverse Berlin circuit. He was the only driver to lap under 1m08s, and ended the session 0.236s clear of the rest of the field.

Sam Bird was second quickest ahead of reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne and Dragon Racing’s Nico Mueller.

Jerome D’Ambrosio topped the times early on, but dropped down the order as others found improvements. He finished the morning fifth, ahead of Alexander Sims, Eduardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries.

Robin Frijns has had an eventful Berlin so far, having an ECU change on Tuesday and a battery change before free practice.

He finished the session ninth quickest, as Sebastien Buemi completed the top 10.

Championship leaders Antonio Felix Da Costa and Mitch Evans finished 11th and 16th respectively.
