Guenther goes fastest in latest Berlin practice session

Maximilian Guenther put aside his slight wrist injury from the previous race in Berlin to top the timesheets in a close, opening free practice session in Berlin.

The German driver set a 1m16.251 to go fastest for BMW i Andretti Motorsport on the new layout at Tempelhof, the previous races being held on clockwise and anti-clockwise versions of the normal circuit.

Oliver Rowland was second fastest for Nissan e.dams ahead of Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler’s Rene Rast, Envision Virgin Racings’s Robin Frijns and newly-crowned champion Antonio Felix da Costa was fifth for DS Techeetah but still within a tenth of Guenther’s time.

Lucas di Grassi set the sixth quickest time for Audi ahead of Sam Bird’s Virgin, Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi and Mitch Evans was ninth for Jaguar Racing, less than one and a half tenths from Guenther.

Edoardo Mortara rounded out the top ten for Venturi Racing ahead of Mercedes EQ Formula E’s Nyck de Vries, Alex Lynn in the Mahindra Racing and Oliver Turvey in the NIO333 was 13th ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne in the DS Techeetah.

Stoffel Vandoorne was 15th quickest despite missing the first 12 minutes of the session as a technical issue got fixed.

The top-20 was rounded out by Jaguar’s Tom Blomqvist on his return to Formula E action, Porsche Formula E’s Neel Jani, Venturi’s Felipe Massa, Mahindra’s Jerome d’Ambrosio and Nico Mueller in the quicker of the two Dragons.

Andre Lotterer was 21st for Porsche ahead of NIO’s Daniel Abt, BMW’s Alexander Sims and Sergio Sette Camara rounded out the field for Dragon.
