Bethonie WaringPascal Wehrlein will join Andre Lotterer at Porsche for the 2020-21 Formula E world championship.
The former Formula 1 driver made his Formula E debut with Mahindra in the 2018-19 season, and has a best placed finish of second in the 2019 Santiago E-Prix.
Wehrlein left Mahindra ahead of the Berlin season finale, where he was replaced by Alex Lynn.
The 25-year-old, who had no previous Porsche connections, replaces Neel Jani for the upcoming season.
“We are delighted to welcome Pascal to the Porsche family,” said head of Porsche Motorsport, Fritz Enzinger. “He has gained a lot of experience in different race series at his young age, where he has always sparkled.
“We would also like to thank Neel Jani for his outstanding commitment. He played a significant part in the development of our Formula E project and thereby contributed greatly to the successes of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team this past season. Neel will stay with Porsche. We will see him in action in future motorsport projects again very soon, which I’m very pleased about.
“With Pascal and Andre we will have two experienced, top class Formula E drivers in the 2020-21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, who have everything it takes to celebrate further success.”
As well as his Formula E experience, Wehrlein has experience fighting for titles in DTM. He took the 2015 title while racing for HWA and running as Mercedes’ Formula 1 test driver, before representing the manufacturer in the German touring car championship in 2018.
