Lynn joins Mahindra for Season 7

Alex Lynn joins Alexander Sims at Mahindra Racing for the 2020-21 Formula E season.

Lynn joined Mahindra for the Berlin sextuple at the end of the 2019-20 season, after Pascal Wehrlein left the team.

The British driver matched team-mate Jerome d’Ambrosio across the six races, taking a best finish of fifth in the penultimate race of the season.

“I’m incredibly excited to be back for Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E championship and to be a part of Mahindra Racing,” said Lynn.

“I’ve had the opportunity of driving the M7Electro on numerous test days and we’re all pretty proud of what we’ve come up with. We won’t know our competitiveness fully until the lights go out in Santiago, but we are here to consistently fight for wins and podiums; that’s what the team go racing for and so do I.

“From that side, I’m extremely excited and focused to be delivering the results that this hard-working team deserves.”

Despite having raced in every FE season since Season 3, this will only be Lynn’s second full season in the championship.

He made his debut at the 2017 New York double-header, replacing Sam Bird at Virgin Racing as Bird missed the event due to WEC commitments. Despite retiring from both races, he took pole position on his debut, and continued with the team for the 2017-18 season.

After leaving Virgin at the end of Season 4, Lynn replaced Nelson Piquet at Jaguar Racing when the Season 1 champion left mid-way through the season.

He didn’t continue with the team for the 2019-20 campaign, but returned to the FE grid with Mahindra in Berlin.

M7-Electro revealed

As well as the new driver line-up, Mahindra also revealed their new car ahead of preseason testing.

The M7Electro uses a ZF powertrain, created by Mahindra Racing engineers working with technology partner ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

The car also has an “innovative” transmission system, as team partner Shell developed a dedicted e-Transmission fluid to “enhance the efficiency of the transmission”.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Mahindra Racing,” said team principal Dilbagh Gill.

“We are heading into the championship’s – and the team’s – seventh year in Formula E, and the first year ever as a World Championship series.

“Formula E has gone from strength to strength over this time and we are extremely proud to have been part of that journey from the very beginning.

“The team has been working incredibly hard to develop the M7Electro challenger and, with a strong driver pairing of Alexander Sims and Alex Lynn, I am confident that we will be back to securing podiums this season.”
