Mahindra commit to Formula E Gen 3

Mahindra Racing become the first team to commit to Formula E’s “Gen 3”, confirming their place on the grid for Season 9.

The third generation of Formula E cars will hit the track for the 2022-23 season for a four-year cycle. They will have 350kW power in qualifying and 300kW for races, with regenerative braking power of 600kW.

Multiple spec parts have already been confirmed by Formula E, including a Spark Racing Technology designed chassis and Williams Advanced Engineering developed battery.

“Ahead of another important technical milestone for the FIA Formula E World Championship, I salute Mahindra Racing as the first manufacturer to commit to the next era of the discipline,” said FIA president Jean Todt.

“The Gen3 race car will indeed further establish the principals that have made the championship successful. It is positive to see a founding team continue with us on a shared mission to develop electric vehicle technology and promote sustainable mobility.”

Mahindra has been part of the Formula E field since the series inception, fielding Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok in the championship’s first season.

The team have four race victories in their six-year history and a best finish of third in the teams’ championship in Season 3.

“By committing early to Gen 3, Mahindra Racing is continuing its journey, which it started by becoming the first OEM to sign up to the championship back in 2013,” said team principal Dilbagh Gill.

“As the greenest team in motorsport, Formula E is the perfect home for us; a place where we can demonstrate our performance and sustainability credentials both on and off the track.
