Rowland quickest in red flag disrupted FP1

Oliver Rowland tops a disrupted first free practice session ahead of the Puebla E-Prix.

An extended red flag period early in the session extended free practice by 15 minutes, but there was still only just over 20 minutes left on the clock by the time the track turned green again.

Most of the field had only completed a handful of laps when Alexander Sims came to a stop on track at Turn 11, bringing out the red flags.

Sims wasn’t the only driver to run into problems in those opening minutes, with Audi’s Rene Rast running wide and hitting a wall, though he was able to make it back to the pits.

When session was stopped, Sebastien Buemi was top of the order with a time some six seconds slower than what would be achieved by the end of the session.

He would be the next driver to make contact with the wall, though was again able to stay in control of the car and head back to the pits.

Lap times tumbled as track conditions improved.

Norman Nato, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Antonio Felix Da Costa all took turns at the top of the order, but it was Rowland who was fastest when the chequered flag fell.

The Nissan driver managed a 1m24.314s around the track, 0.086s quicker than Pascal Wehrlein in P2.

Da Costa took third ahead of Edoardo Mortara and Jake Dennis.

Mitch Evans was the quickest Jaguar driver, finishing sixth ahead of Vandoorne ad Andre Lotterer.

Nato and Robin Frijns completed the top 10.

Sergio Sette Camara and Lucas Di Grassi also ran into issues late in the session. Sette Camara suffered from oversteer which sent him into the wall, while Di Grassi ran up the escape road to avoid contact. They finished 11th and 13th respectively.
