Rowland tops second free practice session

Oliver Rowland topped the standings in the second free practice session of the day. The Brit repeats the feat after finishing first earlier today in FP1.

Rowland clinched the P1 spot in the standings in the last seconds of the session. He set a time of 1m22.861s in his flying lap, moving up to the top as the chequered flag was waved.

He had started the day with the right foot, having topped the FP1 standings and dominated FP2 in the early stages of the session. Things seemed to turn bad for the Brit as he collided with the wall, damaging his front wing, but he was able to carry on to set the fastest time and finish in first place.

Antonio Felix da Costa, who finished FP2 in second place, had a strong dominant pace, running in P1 until the Nissan driver took over that position. The Portuguese ultimately finished 0.266 seconds behind Rowland.

In third place came teammate Jean-Eric Vergne. The DS Techeetahs, always on the hunt, tried their luck to find a spot at the front and looked strong during the session.

Mahindra’s Alex Lynn finished the session in fourth place and behind him came Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara to complete the Top 5.

Nyck de Vries, from current Teams’ Championship leaders Mercedes was able to move up from the bottom places of the standings to finish in sixth position. Teammate Stoffel Vandoorne finished ninth, while BMW’s Jake Dennis came seventh and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans saw the chequered flag from eighth position.

Driver’s championship leader Robin Frijns finished in tenth place, completing the Top 10.
