Wehrlein responds to Puebla disqualification

A frustrated Pascal Wehrlein has questioned the decision to disqualify him from the first Puebla E-Prix due to a technical infringement.

Wehrlein dominated qualifying and the race, but was disqualified as he took the chequered flag.

Teams have three sets of tyres available for the Puebla E-Prix, and must declare which set they will start the race on to officials 10 minutes before the start.

Porsche were late to declare their tyres, but a notification to say the incident was being investigated only came in the closing stages of the race.

“You give us three sets for a race weekend, I would understand a penalty if something was illegal or if we gained an advantage for doing something not correct, but not for a formality,” Wherlein said on Instagram after the race.

“I’m fully behind my team, we did an amazing job today.

“If it’s so important for you [to know] which of three sets we are using for the race just go and check yourself in the half hour grid where the tyres are mounted on the car.

“It’s a shame that all the hard work and preparation of so many people are put in the bin by a formality mistake. It hurts and how should we explain that to the fans and spectators?

“If you feel like this deserves a penalty, fine us. There are fines given for harsher stuff and I would be more than happy to pay it from my own pocket.”

Wehrlein’s team-mate Andre Lotterer and the Nissan duo of Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland were also disqualified for the same infringement.
