Zaccone on top in opening practice session at Assen

Alessandro Zaccone sets the pace in the first on track session for the fourth round of the MotoE season at Assen.

The Octo Pramac rider ended the morning session with a lap time of 1m43.913s, less than a tenth of a second quicker than the next fastest rider.

Lukas Tulovic went fastest early on, with Zaccone some half a second behind. Tulovic wouldn’t improve on this early lap, though, and dropped down to sixth as others found pace around the Dutch circuit.

Zaccone first jumped to the top of the order with a 1m44.151s time, 0.330s ahead of Jordi Torres in P2, but gradually lowered the benchmark to less than 1m44s.

As the riders completed their final laps of the morning, Eric Granado jumped up the order. Granado, who has qualified on pole in every race this season, ended the session just 0.083s off Zaccone’s time.

Dominique Aegerter took third ahead of Torres and Hikari Okubo.

The session was relatively incident free, though a number of riders had lap times deleted for exceeding track limits. Fermin Aldeguer was once of the riders caught out. He also had a lap time removed for yellow flag infringements. He would end the session P8 overall, behind Matteo Ferrari.

Yonny Hernandez and Xavi Cardelus completed the top 10.
