Rob LomasMaximilian Guenther went quickest for BMW i Andretti Motorsport in a wet practice session in London on Saturday morning. The German driver set a 1:26.838 to beat his teammate, Jake Dennis, by 0.375s.
After the lovely weather yesterday, the drivers awoke to see that it had been raining overnight and that puddles had been forming on the circuit.
The result of this was that the fastest time in the session changed hands repeatedly in the early stages of the 30-minute session, due to the changeable track conditions.
The first ten minutes of the session alone saw Nick Cassidy, Robin Frijns (both Envision Virgin), Antonio Felix Da Costa (Techeetah), Sebastien Buemi, Oliver Rowland (both Nissan e.dams), Mitch Evans (Jaguar), and Nyck de Vries (Mercedes) all taking turns at the top of the timesheets.
It was Guenther who ended the session on top though, leading a 1-2 for the Munich-based manufacturer ahead of British teammate Dennis.
Andre Lotterer (Porsche) ultimately set the third fastest time of the session ahead of Mahindra’s Alex Lynn, who had been fastest after the 235kw laps.
Sergio Sette Camara ended the session in fifth for Dragon, despite the Brazilian driver locking up on the way into Turn 6 and having to make a three-point-turn in the runoff area to get out.
De Vries was sixth ahead of Audi’s Rene Rast, Buemi, Rowland, and Edoardo Mortara who rounded out the top ten for Venturi.
Frijns was 22nd after losing it on the way out of Turn 5 and kissing the wall with the nose of his car.
Stoffel Vandoorne was last after aquaplaning on the way into Turn 10 and hitting the wall hard with the left-front corner of his Mercedes, meaning that he didn’t set a time.
