Aldeguer ends Granado’s qualifying domination with Austrian pole

Fermin Aldeguer takes pole position in Austria as a mistake for Eric Granado ends his pole position streak.

Granado had a significant wobble at the first corner on his flying lap. Though he was able to finish the lap without any further mistakes, it was only enough to put him 13 by the time the session had finished.

Aldeguer had a much smoother lap in comparison to set a 1m35.306s lap, 0.047s quicker than Lukas Tulovic in P2.

After only placing P13 in free practice, Hikari Okubo ran towards the start of the session, and sent most of the session on provisional pole position. It was only as Tulovic, third from last in the qualifying order, hit the track that he was bumped off the top spot.

He dropped down to third as Matteo Ferrari came across the line to slot into a provisional P2, and then to fourth as Aldeguer knocked everyone down a further position.

Championship leader Alessandro Zaccone took fifth quickest after a difficult Friday practice, while Xavi Cardelus and Jordi Torres took seventh and eighth.

Dominique Aegerter, Yonny Hernandez, and Miquel Pons completed the top 10.
