Rosberg X Racing tops Q2 as X44 leads overall standings

Rosberg X Racing dominates the second qualifying session in Greenland to put themselves back in the fight for the race win.

A number of stoppages and a roll in the first qualifying session left the team at the tail end of the order, but there were no such problems in Q2. The team had to wait until the end of the session to set its run as the mechanics were still repairing the bodywork damage caused by the roll when Molly Taylor was originally scheduled to go out.

With only RXR left to go out, X44’s Sebastian Loeb and Christina Gutierrez were top of the order with a 14m37.598s run.

RXR had a slower start to their run, but gradually brought down the gap to X44 and, by the final few corners of Johan Kristoffersson’s lap they were reaching the deltas ahead of the X44 duo.

Kristoffersson took the chequered flag to complete a run of 14m26.647s, putting the team top of the order and awarding it nine qualifying points.

It wouldn’t be enough to topple X44, who qualified fastest in Q1 and will go through to the first Semi Final, but it was enough to secure a place in the second Semi Final.

Three teams were unable to complete their runs in Q2. Xite’s Oliver Bennet had no power from the start of the lap, while damage to Kyle LeDuc suffered suspension damage and brought out the Red Flags.

The Abt squad managed to complete one of the two mandatory laps but a double puncture brought an early end to the team’s day. Despite this, the team’s Q1 performance was enough to put them in the second Semi Final. Abt and RXR will be joined by Andretti United. Timmy Hansen put in a phenomenal lap for the team helping the squad up to P3 overall in the session.

Veloce Racing and Sainz XE Team will go through to Semi Final 1, which features the first, fifth, and sixth best teams from qualifying. They finished sixth and fifth respectively in Q2.

A strong drive from the JBXE Team put it P4 in the qualifying group, but after suspension damage ended the team’s Q1 run early, the squad could only place eighth overall, behind Andretti but ahead of Xite. However, the new format means one of these three teams will make it through to the Final from the Crazy Race.
