Bird signs multi-year contract with Jaguar

Sam Bird has signed a new multi-year contract to remain with Jaguar Racing in Formula E.

Sam Bird has been racing in the fully-electric series since its inaugural season back in 2014. He switched to Jaguar at the start of Season 7 and was already confirmed to be racing with the squad for a second year.

Despite not disclosing the contract length, Bird and Jaguar have agreed on an extension which will have the British driver racing in the series for the upcoming seasons, aiming to collect his long-awaited title.

The Brit raced for six seasons for Virgin, and made the switch to Jaguar ahead of the past season. He scored two wins and three podiums on his first run with the British outfit, which helped the team finish the Teams’ Championship as runner-ups.

Bird will be pairing once again with Kiwi driver Mitch Evans to fight for Jaguar’s first-ever title in the series, aiming to collect wins and vital points for a brand with an exponential performance ever since its arrival in Formula E.

James Barclay, Jaguar Team Principal, said “It is a really positive start to season eight as we confirm Sam Bird will continue his electric racing career with Jaguar TCS Racing after a great first season with the team. Sam’s results from last year demonstrate he fits in extremely well here at Jaguar TCS Racing, shares our goals and is very much part of the family”.

“At the same time confirming the extension of our contract with Sam means we can focus on the development and important preparations for Gen3 together”.

Bird added “My first season with Jaguar TCS Racing told me everything I needed to know – I wanted to continue to be a part of the Jaguar TCS Racing family. The whole team is determined, focussed and ready to get results and that’s exactly who I want to be working with”.

The first challenge for Bird and his team comes on January 28th and 29th, at the season opener Diriyah E-Prix, in Saudi Arabia, where a new season full of electric action will kick off.
