Bethonie WaringOliver Rowland topped the times in the opening free practice session ahead of the first Berlin E-Prix.
The Nissan driver jumped to the top of the times with his first lap at full power, managing a 1m06.638s lap around the Tempelhof circuit.
The time wouldn’t be improved upon through the remainder of the 45 minute session, though five drivers were able to get to within a tenth of a second.
Jaguar’s Mitch Evans went fastest after the opening laps ahead of Rowland and Sergio Sette Camara. Oliver Askew was the first driver to set a time using 250kW of power, laying the early benchmark at 1m06.985s. Pascal Wehrlein would briefly take the top spot before Rowland’s session topping time.
While P1 wouldn’t change from that moment onwards, the rest of the field continued to find improvements and the second placed time changed hands multiple times. Lucas Di Grassi would end the session second quickest, just 0.053s behind Rowland. Stoffel Vandoorne was a further 0.035s back, while Di Grassi’s team-mate Edoardo Mortara was just 0.001s off Vandoorne’s time.
Jake Dennis and Wehrlein took fifth and sixth, both within a tenth of a second of Rowland’s time.
Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix Da Costa were both inside the top 10, finishing seventh and ninth respectively. Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi separated the pair. Robin Frijns completed the top 10.
