Teams begin testing Gen 3 cars

Testing for Formula E’s Season 9 is well underway, with four of the 12 teams having already hit the track.

The 2022-23 Formula E season will be the beginning of the championship’s Gen 3 era. Cars will be more powerful, capable of better regen, and have the technology needed for flash-charging.

After the new car was unveiled at the Monaco E-Prix, teams have been able to get to grips with the new technology.

Porsche were the first to hit the track, with Pascal Wehrlein turning laps at a test track in Stuttgart.

“That was a very interesting day and an awesome experience to drive our new Gen3 car for the first time,” he said.

“It felt great and I’m excited to test it at full power soon. My first impressions today were also very good and it made me hungry for more.”

NIO 333, Mahindra and Jaguar began testing at a UK RAF base the following week. Both NIO and Jaguar showed off testing liveries on the all-new Gen 3 car.

The group began testing on June 15th and are scheduled to continue until June 17th.

Manufacturers – which includes all four teams that have already begun testing – are permitted 12 test days before preseason testing. Those supplying customer teams, which currently only includes Jaguar, are allowed eight additional test days.
