Vandoorne leads the way in New York practice

Stoffel Vandoorne set the pace in the opening free practice session ahead of the New York E-Prix.

It was a mixed up order to end the first on track session in New York, with Dragon’s Sergio Sette Camara taking P2, 0.299s behind Vandoorne.

The Brooklyn street circuit was extremely dusty. It meant lap times improved rapidly throughout the session, and putting a wheel off line could lead to spins, as Lucas Di Grassi and Vandoorne both found out. There were no major incidents though, with the caution period being the Full Course Yellow test and a brief yellow flag at turn one.

Multiple drivers took turns at the top of the order, including Antonio Felix Da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein.

In the closing stages of the session, Sam Bird jumped up to P1, only to be knocked off the top spot by Oliver Rowland. Sette Camara then bettered both times.

Vandoorne was the only driver to set a time sub 1m10s, though, and ended the session with a time of 1m09.836s.

Sette Camara held onto P2, 0.008s ahead of Rowland and a further 0.028s ahead of Bird.

Championship leader Edoardo Mortara took fifth, 0.003s ahead of Wehrlein and Da Costa.

Nyck de Vries, Maximilian Guenther, and Jake Dennis completed the top 10.
