Ma Qing Hua has been in and out of Formula E since the second season of the all-electric series. He made his debut for Team Aguri at the Paris ePrix of that season and finished the final four races of the season. When Techeetah took over Team Aguri, Ma was kept on for the first three races of the third season. He produced a best result of 15th in the Marrakesh ePrix before he was replaced by former Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutierrez.
In the fourth season of Formula E, Ma made a one-off appearance for NIO Formula E at the Paris ePrix when he replaced Luca Filippi.
Away from Formula E, Ma has been a test driver for both HRT and Caterham Formula 1 teams and has also competed in WTCC. He picked up two wins in WTCC and secured a best season finish of fourth in 2015.
