Abt loses Hong Kong victory; Rosenqvist inherits win

Daniel Abt has been disqualified from today’s race in Hong Kong due to a technical infringement. As a result, Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist takes the win.

Abt took advantage of a spin from Edoardo Mortara to win the second race of the weekend in Hong Kong, but that victory has now been taken away.

The stewards confirmed that the “The FIA security stickers (barcodes) on the inverter and MGU units did not correspond with those declared on the Technical Passport provided by the competitor Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler for the event”. This punishment for this rule breach is disqualification from the race.

Rosenqvist not only inherits the win, but also takes a maximum haul of 29 points from Sunday in Hong Kong, having also netted three points for pole position and one point for fastest lap.

This is the third race in Formula E history in which the Audi/ABT squad has lost a win in post-race scrutineering; Lucas di Grassi lost victories in Berlin (season 1) and Mexico City (season 2) in the same way.

The Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team do have the right to appeal the penalty.
