Punta del Este returns to Formula E calendar

Punta del Este will return to the Formula E calendar to replace the postponed Sao Paolo ePrix, the FIA have announced.

The FIA’s World Motorsport Council were presented with the change and approved it for this season.

As reported by Just Electric earlier this week, there have been issues regarding the land used for the Sao Paolo ePrix and private investors with the process of selling the land taking longer than planned.

It means the race is now expected to take place in Season 5 of Formula E with the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este taking the March 17 race slot.

The race featured in the first two seasons of Formula E, with Sebastien Buemi winning both races. Punta del Este also marked Jean-Eric Vergne’s debut in Formula E as he took pole position for Andretti.

The layout remained largely unchanged in the first two seasons. The first chicane was modified for the Season 2 race.

The third round of season four takes place in Marrakech on January 13.
