Günther and Caldarelli to test for Dragon Racing

FIA European Formula 3 driver Maximilian Günther and Super GT driver Andrea Caldarelli will take part in the Formula E rookies test in Marrakesh.

Günther, who drives for Prema Powerteam in the single-seater junior formula, finished third in his third season in the series having finished second in 2016.

The German driver won five races in 2017 and has won 10 races in three seasons in F3, although his first came for Mücke Motorsport in 2015.

He also had a reserve driver role with Mercedes in DTM.

Günther told Just Electric: “[It’s] great to confirm that I will be testing Formula E at the beginning of 2018. It will be a new challenge, thanks to Dragon Racing for this opportunity. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Caldarelli has been driving in Super GT since 2012 and has picked up three wins in his six seasons in the series.

He as twice finished runner-up in the series and finished third in 2017.

The Italian driver competed in GP2 Asia in 2011 but failed to score a point in his four races. He then moved to GP3 for two rounds with a best finish of second – he scored points in all four races.

Since then, Caldarelli has competed in Formula Nippon/Super Formula and now SuperGT.

The Marrakesh ePrix takes place on January 13, with the rookies test the following day.
