Formula E to use complete Monaco circuit layout in S5

Formula E will be switching to the F1 circuit at Monaco for Season 5, with the series running the Gen 2 in the streets of the Principality.

The previous runnings of the Monaco ePrix saw the cars turn off the F1 circuit at Saint Devote before rejoining the circuit at the Nouvelle Chicane to run on a 1.094-mile version of the full 2.074-mile long circuit.

The Monaco ePrix is held on alternating years with the Monaco Historic Grand Prix due to both events sharing the same date, two weeks before the Grand Prix.

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag told e-racing365: “Monaco is back and we will use the full track” and that “the short track was too small; it was ok, but it is much better for us to race on the big one.”

The move to the Grand Prix circuit has been praised by the drivers with Season 2 champion and winner of both Monaco ePrix held so far, Sebastien Buemi, offering his thoughts on the matter. “I think first of all with the new cars, it’s going to be very difficult to continue on the small tracks.

“Of course the [Monaco] track is the smallest track of the season and it’s going to be very difficult to overtake there. With more power and better cars, it’s going to be very important to go to the big one. When we have a possibility like in Monaco, I think we should jump on it”.
