Bethonie WaringDS Virgin believes they showed they can challenge at the top in Mexico despite leaving the round with just a single point.
Both drivers were hit with 10-place grid penalties due to gearbox changes but Alex Lynn bounced back to take his fourth points finish of the season.
“We came into this weekend knowing we had a difficult race ahead but from the start of the weekend we showed we had the pace to challenge at the top,” said team principal Alex Tai.
“While it is disappointing to only come away with one point this weekend, the team showed how competitive we are amongst fierce opposition.”
Despite Lynn’s strong performance, Virgin left Mexico disappointed.
Sam Bird struggled to improve from 19th on the grid and an alternative strategy was undone after a clash with Nico Prost late in the race.
Bird finished 17th and, though he remains third in the championship, it wasn’t the result the team was hoping for.
“The assessment of the weekend is disappointing, with only one point scored,” said DS Performance director Xavier Mestelan Pinon. “Starting with 10 place grid penalties for both cars, our chances of being able to position high on the grid were slim.
“However, we remain positive as we remain third in the driver championship and are close to the top three in the teams standings.
“The team will now focus on the next race in Punta Del Este in two weeks, where we hope to be competitive once again.”
One positive from the weekend is that both drivers enjoyed a gearbox problem free race, suggesting the team’s solution worked and they won’t start the Punta Del Este ePrix on the backfoot.
