Just Electric

Venturi launches electric racing’s first ever driver academy

A new step towards innovation has been made today in the world of Formula E. Venturi has launched ‘Next Gen’, an academy to prepare driver for electric motor racing.

In nowadays’ motorsports, it is not unusual to see team’s having their own driver academies. In Formula 1, this phenomenon has been going on for a while now, with graduates competing at top-level now.

But when it comes to electric racing, it is a whole different thing. There are a series of aspects drivers have to pay attention to within the car at the same time as they race; which requires a lot of focus on various things at a time.

Venturi made a step forward, launching the very first academy which aims to prepare its drivers to the world of electric racing. As Formula E grows bigger and new series want to follow the electric path, giving drivers the chance of learning about what it takes to race an electric machine is a viable way to continue helping with the growth of this type of racing.

“We want to help those with talent but who haven’t always had the means to get started. We have often given youth a chance in the past”, commented Venturi’s president, Gildo Pastor.

“For example, the Venturi Formula E team development driver, Michael Benyahia, is just 17. For me, it was the logical next step to continue betting on youth by creating Venturi Next Gen”.

The brand has announced the academy will provide the drivers with a thorough preparation, which will include simulator work, work with the engineers and Formula E team’s drivers, and physical training. Formula E will have a significant role, as drivers will be present at races and being guided by Maro Engel and Edoardo Mortara.

Eight drivers have been announced. The age range goes from 9 to 29 years old, each one with a different racing background. From karting to eSports, via junior series, these drivers with different levels of experience will be given their first taste of electric racing thanks to the Monegasque team.

The drivers to take part in this academy, are international karting’s Louis Iglesias and Benjamin Cartery, French F4 drivers Pierre-Louis Chovet and Arthur Leclerc, GP3’s Dorian Boccolacci, and eSport champions Maxime Pain, Kevin Leaune, and Gaëtan Goarant
