Rosenqvist tops FP2, Lynn hits wall

Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist tops the final free practice session ahead of qualifying for the inaugural Rome ePrix.

Rosenqvist set the pace ahead of Lucas di Grassi and Jose Maria Lopez, only to go 0.3s faster in the second half of the session, ending FP2 with a 1m35.467s time.

The half hour session was cut short when Virgin’s Alex Lynn hit the wall with less than five minutes on the clock. He had been on a 200kW when he put his Virgin into the barriers.

The red flags were brought out, meaning many drivers, including championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne, were unable to practice a 200kW lap ahead of the first qualifying session on the Italian track.

Team-mate Sam Bird had managed to put in his qualifying simulation just before the end of the session, putting his Virgin P2, just 0.344s slower than Rosenqvist.

Di Grassi finished the morning third quickest, just 0.0.28s slower than Bird, ahead of Lopez and the Renault e.dams duo of Nico Prost and Sebastien Buemi.

Jerome d’Ambrosio put his Dragon fourth quickest in the opening 10 minutes but dropped down the order as others improved, eventually ending the session seventh.

After a strong FP1, Nelson Piquet ended FP2 P8 with Tom Blomqvist and Mitch Evans completing the top 10.
