Eleven teams set to take part in S5 as HWA joins the grid

After some months of speculation, Formula E has announced that German team HWA AG is joining the series in Season 5. For the first time in the fully-electric championship’s history, the grid will have a total of eleven teams and twenty-two cars.

HWA, a team linked to touring car series, will join the ABB FIA Formula E Championship ahead of its fifth season, running a Venturi powertrain.

The series has revealed the German squad has already been involved with the Monegasque team this current season, taking a major step on joining the grid for the 2018-19 season.

“It’s rewarding to see a name so synonymous with racing join the already impressive and growing list of teams and manufacturers competing in Formula E. They have a proven track record in other categories and will surely push to replicate similar achievements in Formula E as we enter a new era of fully-electric racing”, expressed Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E.

Ulrich Fritz, CEO of HWA AG, said: “[Formula E] it’s a challenge that we’re very happy to rise to. HWA AG are the most successful team ever in DTM history. Our goal is to continue the company’s success story in Formula E. At the same time, Formula E with its unique concept offers a completely new perspective on the future of motorsport”.

Both Venturi and HWA will share the Venturi VFE 05 car, as Venturi has announced immediately after the confirmation of HWA joining the ever-growing fully-electric championship.

“I’m delighted to contribute to HWA AG’s arrival as a Formula E team by providing them with our Venturi Gen2 cars for the next season. Our partnership over the current season is a win for both organisations. I have no doubt that Venturi Automobiles’ experience in high-performance electric vehicles will be a valuable asset for HWA AG, who will be keen to add to an already impressive record”, commented Gildo Pastor, president of Venturi Automobiles.
