Rossiter becomes TECHEETAH’s new Development Driver

Former Formula 1 test driver James Rossiter joins Techeetah Formula E team as its Development Driver.

Rossiter, who currently races in the Japanese Super Formula and Super GT, ran with Techeetah in the FE rookie test earlier this year and finished fifth overall.

“I’m very excited to join Techeetah as their Development Driver,” he said. “Formula E is a really exciting space right now, and it’s no secret that I want to be in the championship.

“I’m still racing in Super Formula in Japan, and so when the role surfaced to become the [Formula E] championship leader’s development driver, it was the perfect solution.

“I will help with the development work, and I’ll be working closely with the engineering team and drivers, all of whom are close friends, so it will be a great season together.”

The British driver has experience working as a test driver for a number of F1 teams, mostly recently Force India in 2013. Team principal Mark Preston hopes that experience, as well as Rossiter’s racing experience, will make him a valuable addition to the Techeetah team.

“He has a wealth of experience from Formula 1, Super Formula and really impressed us at the rookie test in Marrakesh earlier this year,” he explained. “Having someone with James’ experience to help us with our development is invaluable for us.

“The stakes are getting bigger each season and, as we grow as a team, we will be adding talent to our roster.”

The announcement comes after Zhou Guanyu joined Techeetah as a development driver and Pedro de la Rosa was appointed sporting and technical advisor in April.
