Simon Evans and Brazilian stock car racers confirmed for eTrophy

Simon Evans, brother of Jaguar Racing driver Mitch Evans, is one of three new drivers to be confirmed for the Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy after testing at Silverstone.

A number of drivers and teams joined Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s already confirmed duo at the British track for the series’ first official test this week.

Following the test, Evans and Stock Car Brasil legends Caca Bueno and Sergio Jimenez have confirmed they will compete in the series’ inaugural championship.

Evans, who has enjoyed success in sports and touring cars, will be representing a “multi-sponsor team from across the Asia Pacific region” while Bueno and Jimenez will race for the two car Jaguar Brazil Racing team.

“My brother races in Formula E and I’ve been following it for a few years now; it’s exciting, it’s definitely the future so it’s great to be involved,” said Evans.

“The car exceeded my expectations, it was nice to drive and the braking performance is really good.

“Having my brother there will be great too. We’ll be supporting each other and he’ll definitely be pushing me on.”

Teams from across the world have already booked their place in the first international championship for production electric vehicles, including a two-car German squad which was also present at the Silverstone test.

“This week’s test confirmed the Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy is shaping up to offer exciting, close and really competitive racing,” said championship manager Marion Barnaby.

“The standard of drivers is high and with five continents already represented on the grid it is going to be a truly international series.

“We look forward to unveiling more competitors and completing final testing before the debut in Ad Diriyah on 15 December.”

The series was also given an added boost when Formula E sponsor ABB was announced as Official Charging Partner for the championship
