Dillmann disappointed to miss out on Season 4 seat

New NIO driver Tom Dillmann was disappointed to miss out on a full-time race seat last year.

Dillmann made his Formula E debut in 2017, racing for Venturi in the latter half of the 2016-17 season.

Despite outscoring his team-mate in the seven races he competed in, the Frenchman was overlooked for a full-time seat for season four and spent 2018 racing in the Japanese Super Formula.

Dillmann told Just Electric he was disappointed he couldn’t complete the full season last year, but admitted it was difficult to prove himself in only a handful of races.

“When I joined the championship in season three, I joined in the middle of the championship without driver the car before,” he said.

“I was in the points four times out of seven races. I beat my team-mate in qualifying. I beat my team-mate in the points.

“So I was really disappointed to not have a drive in season four.”

Dillmann returned to FE for a handful of races in the closing stages of last year, taking a fourth place finish in New York. His strong results in a less competitive Venturi caught the attention of a number of teams, and he signed to partner Oliver Turvey at NIO for the 2018-19 season.

“It’s great to be part of the championship, to be one of the 22 drivers, because every driver that’s not in Formula 1 wants to be in FE,” he told Just Electric. “DTM, endurance, they all want to be in Formula E, because the level is very high.

“All the manufacturers are here or are coming. So it’s really the place to be for a driver. I’m glad that I’m part of it.”
