Rome E-Prix postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak

There had been speculation on whether the fully-electric championship would race in Rome this season. The race, scheduled for April 4th, has now been postponed as a safety measure due to the virus having a big outbreak in Italy.

This is not Formula E’s first race to be put off in the calendar. Earlier this year, the Sanya E-Prix, set to take place the 21st this month, was postponed when the coronavirus epidemic was largely growing in China.

The COVID-19 has had a recent outbreak in Italy, causing Italian authorities to cancel or postpone events of different kinds which involve large crowds, as local decree states. This means the Rome E-Prix could not be carried out in the date already set.

Several teams and the series have stated that the race organisation along with local Roman authorities are already working for solutions to reschedule the event, as well as contacting the people who have already acquired their tickets in order to indicate them how to proceed.
