Hartley splits from Dragon ahead of Berlin rounds

Brendon Hartley has split with GEOX Dragon Racing ahead of the final six races in the 2019-20 Formula E season.

The two-time World Endurance champion joined the team when he made his FE debut at the start of the season and scored Dragon’s only points of the year with a P9 in Santiago.

Hartley’s reason for leaving Dragon remains unclear, but the decision to miss the three Berlin double-headers means he will be able to take part in free practice for the round of the World Endurance Championship, which takes place the weekend after the FE season finale.

“I want to thank Brendon for all of his efforts, and I wish him success in his future endeavors, he has been immensely helpful in the development of our powertrain and overall program,” said team owner Jay Penske in a statement to The Race.

Dragon has two test and reserve drivers, Sergio Sette Camara and Joel Eriksson, who could be chosen to fill the seat. Camara performed well in the rookie test, but is the official reserve driver for Red Bull and Alpha Tauri in Formula 1, and would be unavailable for Berlin if he has to attend the Silverstone F1 race on August 9th. Eriksson doesn’t have any such commitments.
