Ferrari back on top in second Emilia Romagna race

Matteo Ferrari moves into the lead of the 2020 MotoE championship with another masterclass performance at Misano.

The Trentino Gresini MotoE rider spent the opening laps battling for position with title rival Dominique Aegerter before the latter was caught up in an accident.

Aegerter was running second when Tommso Marcon tried a late lunge at Mattia Casadei. He managed to get past Casadei but couldn’t slow in time and collided with Marcon, spending them both out of the race.

Ferrari now had a good gap back to Casadei and Jordi Torres, which would only increase as Casadei and Torres battled for the runner up position.

He finished 1.325s ahead of the battle to take his fourth win at Misano in two years.

Torres struggled to find a way past Casadei. Almost every corner the rookie began a move to overtake, but backed out before he could make a move stick. Finally, in the closing stages of the race, he was able to briefly take the runner up position, but Casadei swiftly moved back ahead. Torres would not get another opportunity and had to settle for third, putting him seven points behind Ferrari in the championship standings.

Niccolo Canepa took fourth, his best result of the season, ahead of Alessandro Zaccone and Mike Di Meglio.

After his crash in the first race of the weekend, Eric Granado started towards the back of the grid. The results from race one determined the grid for race two but, with a number of DNFs in race one, free practice times determined the back of the grid. Granado started first of those who did not finish race one, and made good progress early in the race, but progress stalled as he came onto the back of Di Meglio, who actually started behind Granado.

Di Meglio led a six bike train for sixth, with Granado his closest rival but Alejandro Medina not far behind.

Granado held onto seventh ahead of Medina, while Xavier Cardelus and Niki Tuuli comleted the top 10.
