Audi to quit Formula E after Season 7

The German outfit is set to finish its Formula E venture after Season 7 aiming to focus on its sportscar racing programme.

Having been involved in Formula E since the beginning of the series (initially as ABT Audi Sport), Audi has become one of the most successful teams in the series, collecting a Drivers’ Championship and two Teams’ Championships. 

Alejandro Agag, founder of the series and former CEO, has waved goodbye at the German manufacturer, highlighting the journey they have had together in which Formula E has grown to become a worldwide famous racing championship. 

It has been reported that the outfit is quitting the fully-electric championship to focus on top-flight sportscar racing. 

Audi has vast successes in endurance racing, dominating the 2000s and early 2010s at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and winning two manufacturers’ championships at the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The German giant quit the WEC in 2016 and it is likely that it will make its return in the 2022 edition of the championship. Along with its participation in WEC, it is to be expected that Audi may also be back at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the United States. 

It has been confirmed that Audi will run its Dakar programme from 2022 onwards, contesting in the legendary rally with an electric vehicle.
