Panis leaves Andorra day one points leader

Aurelien Panis takes an early championship lead after the opening round of the 2020-21 Andros eTrophy.

Panis was pipped to the race victory by Yann Ehrlacher, but his dominant performance in the qualifying trials puts him six points ahead at the end of the first day in Andorra.

The Enedis Audi A1 driver started from pole for the Super Final, but a strong start from Ehracher dropped him back to second off the line. Panis stayed with Ehrlacher, almost finding a way past on the penultimate lap, but had to settle for second.

Behind them, a quick starting Quentin Giordano snatched fourth and kept Nathanael Berthon under pressure throughout the six-lap event.

It was a difficult race for the Renault duo of Jean-Baptiste Dubourg and Nico Prost, who both had problems at the start and finished a way behind the rest of the field. Dubourg stayed on the leading lap, albeit 45s behind Ehrlacher. A brief stop for Prost dropped him off the lead lap, though he managed to get going again to finish the race.

The pair’s strong performances in qualifying was enough to keep them ahead of Giordano in the points standings.

Christophe Ferrier won the second final as pole sitter Benjamine Riviere battled Louis Gervoson.
