Formula E postpone Santiago double-header

Formula E has postponed the season opener in Santiago due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

A new strain of the virus has limited travel in and out of the UK, where many of the teams are based.

Chile is one of the countries that have banned travelers from the UK from entering the country.

It’s understood FE officials had been in discussions with the country’s government to try to acquire special access to the country while following strict Covid-19 protocols.

However, the series has now confirmed the double header in Santiago, which was schedued for January 15th-16th, will now be postponed until “later in Q1”.

The decision means Saudi Arabia is now likely to host the season opener, with the Diriyah E-Prix currently scheduled for 26th-27th February.

The rest of the 2021 calendar, including a double header in London, is still classed as provisional.
